The
Dual Arm Un-Coiler Retention System is intended to retain the outside diameter
on heavier gauge strip or high temper material coils up to 11 gauge or
.125" thickness. This new development in pallet decoiling improves production
efficiency by decreasing coil changeover time and eliminating the hazardous
lifting of individual coils. Thicker gauge coils have a tendency to clock
spring outward after the strapping bands are removed, making the uncoiling
process difficult to accomplish. By utilizing this retention system, the
outer wrap of the coil is captured in place during the payoff operation.
The system is
applicable to any 52" model UnCoiler and consists of two hydraulically
actuated retention arms to contain the coil clock spring. Each arm has
a pivoting dual wheel roller assembly to apply counter force pressure on
the coil outer wrap. A three position, manual valve enables the operator
to select the system modes of operation. The arms can be closed, thereby
applying a retention force on the coil; opened to permit the loading of
a skid of material; or locked into any neutral position to maintain a constant
diameter. Each arm assembly pivots on the support base thereby allowing
it to move in and out, compensating for an off center coil stack while
it rotates during payoff. The retention force is easily adjustable by setting
the system pressure regulator valve. The only input power requirement is
70-90 PSI air pressure.
The complete
retention assembly is modular and installs into the Un-Coiler base frame
leg. Also required is an Extra Tension Pneumatic Regenerative Control Head
to provide the increased guide drum tension required to payoff thicker
material. A ratcheting coil lock is available to secure the upper coil
core to the coil stack or skid during the payoff operation.
